Wound Healing

The Advanced Wound Healing team at St. Elizabeth Regional Health is a diverse group of medical experts from throughout the hospital. Team members are assigned based on patient need and could include physicians, nurses, therapists, pharmacists, dietitians and/or surgery staff.

Your wound healing team will work with you and your family to create an individualized treatment plan based on your needs.

Help with non-healing wounds
Most wounds heal successfully on their own. However, if your wound has not healed within 2 to 3 weeks, it is generally recommended that you seek help from a wound care specialist. The Advanced Wound Healing Center works with area physicians to treat a variety of wounds including:

• Chronic wounds (wounds that do not heal quickly);
• Diabetic ulcers;
• Stage 3 and 4 pressure ulcers;
• Venous ulcers;
• Non-healing surgical wounds and Dehiscence
• Burns;
• Trauma; and
• Skin disorders.

Available treatments
Our team of specialists will work with you and your family to find the treatment plan that will work best for you. We use clinically proven methods to achieve positive results for our patients. Treatment may include a variety of traditional, medical, surgical interventions and/or advanced technologies, along with patient education. The Advanced Wound Healing Center provides the following treatments:

• Serial wound debridements;
• Application of skin substitutes (Oasis, Apligraf, Dermagraft, Integra);
• Pulse lavage;
• Total contact cast for off loading;
• Specialty dressings (silver alginates/foams, collagen, etc.); and
• Compression therapy.

Additional services
In addition to treating wounds, our staff also provide the following additional services:

• Patient and caregiver education;
• Help with specialty equipment ordering.;
• On-site access to take home wound care products vendor;
• Dietary screening and referral to a dietitian if needed;
• Access to hospital support services such as Radiology, Laboratory, Physical/Occupational Therapy, Outpatient Services; and
• Coordination of wound treatment with other medical care.

Preparing to Visit

Call for an appointment.  You may be asked a few questions about your wound and general health.

Keep your appointment.  It's the first step toward healing your wound

We're dedicated to helping you, but your cooperation is vital.

Make a list of any allergies you have and any medications you're currently taking, including aspirin, vitamins, and herbal products.

Bring your medical records, and insurance cards and forms.

If you have diabetes, bring snack food and medication with you.

Your first visit will take some time.

Patient Drop Off
A convenient patient drop off is located at the hospital patient entrance on the lower level of St. Elizabeth. Take the lower ramp and watch for the patient drop off entrance and temporary parking.

Parking
Free parking is available in the St. Elizabeth parking garage.
