In the face of life’s ultimate challenge, St. Elizabeth Hospice answers with compassionate and professional care. For many years, we have helped families shoulder the burden of incurable disease, and have helped their loved ones live with dignity and in comfort. Our hospice team embraces the entire person, and strives to enhance a patient’s physical comfort and peace of mind.

We focus on life beyond cure.
Hospice care begins when curative treatment is no longer expected to be effective. This care neither hastens nor postpones death, but respectfully recognizes dying as a natural process.

We ease pain.
We understand that pain is experienced in many forms—physical, mental, emotional, social or spiritual, and we are prepared to respond to our patients’ needs 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

We empathize with end-of-life issues as well. Our team cares for people with life-limiting conditions such as heart, lung, liver or kidney disease; Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and dementia; all forms of cancer; and other end-stage conditions as certified by attending physicians.

Our hospice team provides supportive consultation and a treatment plan that helps patients maintain their independence and quality of life for as long as possible.

We’re called to comfort.
We bring our team to the patient, offering care in surroundings that are familiar and relaxed. When the primary caregiver needs a rest, we step in and coordinate with the family to arrange a respite. And if a patient cannot remain at home, we work together to find the right fit in an extended-care facility, while continuing to provide the comforts of hospice.

How Hospice works
Medicare, Medicaid and most insurance carriers cover hospice care. Prescription medications related to the hospice diagnosis, medical equipment and medical supplies are included, in addition to the team’s services.

Hospice care benefits patients who are no longer seeking curative treatments. When there is a limited life prognosis, the attending physician usually will refer to our services.

We’re a Skilled and Caring Team:

  • Registered nurses coordinate care and assist with pain and symptom management.
  • A hospice medical director advises the hospice team and works with the patient’s personal doctor.
  • Home health aides provide personal care for the patient, and can assist with dressing, baths and general hygiene.
  • Homemaker services to perform household services to maintain a safe and sanitary environment for the patient.
  • Specially trained volunteers extend companionship and respite for the primary caregiver:
    – Break time for caregivers in the home;
    – Patient companionship in a hospital or nursing home setting;
    – Emotional support; and – Assistance with shopping, yard or household chores.
  • Social workers help patients and families understand the emotional impact of the illness; the communication process of death and dying; and long-term planning.
  • Spiritual counselors and clergy offer guidance and support for all traditions.
  • Physical therapists, occupational therapists and speech therapists are specially trained to help maximize the patients independence and quality of life.
  • A dietitian is available for nutritional concerns.
  • Pharmacists assist the hospice team with your  medication regimen.
  • Bereavement counselors comfort through grief support.
  • A nurse is on call 24 hours a day to answer questions.
